2.5 days of team development
Team: Me, Tuerhong Guliniali, Forrest Meng, William Stadtlander, and Selena Yang.
Could not have asked for better teammates! Everyone was so easy to work with (and insanely talented) and we all had a blast cracking jokes the entire time. I had the pleasure this time around of exercising my team lead skills. I came up with original pitch and was able to find some awesome teammates who were excited by the idea!
Over the past year, my scoping and project organization skills have improved the most. (People kept asking me if I’m a PM for work lol) In terms of shaders and coding – I’m able to quickly put together basic shaders that are optimized for VR. However, I realized that I still have a long way to go in terms of taking my skills to the next level – especially for VR/XR where there’s a lot of limitations.
I also learned how valuable outside feedback is during this year’s hackathon! It’s something I’m going to focus more on with future projects.
In under 48 hours we put together an ambitious demo in VR for our emotional tracking app. You sing a melody into an orb which reacts to your voice and uses machine learning to respond accordingly to your emotional state.

I wanted to go back this year to put the skills I’ve picked up since the last hackathon to the test. I was prototyping in Unity for 6 months and the past 6 months I’ve been in Unreal Engine mostly focused on shader stuff.
