Ribbon Handling Prototype

1 Week of Solo Development

  • Used Unity’s particle system and wind zones
  • Created a flowing, responsive ribbon with the particle system
  • Challenges included detecting particle collider triggers
  • Movement sensing: when the player hold the stick still, the ribbon will break
  • Atmospheric particles: particles lining the ground give user sense of depth
  • Smoothing functions: ribbon feels like it is being pulled by a string, stick feels responsive to wrist movements
  • Camera movement after completing a move correctly is smooth and exhilarating
  • Wind Zones: Unity windzones create floating sensation of ribbon
  • Responsive SFX: swooshing sound of ribbon relative to speed of ribbon particles
